Requirements for a San Diego Marriage License

Each person must appear in person and
present one form of valid photo identification
with proof of age.
To expedite the identification process,
it is recommended that both the bride and groom
bring a certified copy of their birth certificate.

You must be 18 years of age.
Or go through Juvenile Court prior to obtaining a license.
Their number is 858.694.4601 ,
they can give you the specific requirements
for couples under the age of 18.


If either party has been granted a divorce within 90 days of applying for a new marriage license,
a copy of the final divorce decree must be
presented at the time of issue.

A blood test is NOT required.

Your marriage license is effective immediately and
valid for 90 days anywhere within the state of California.
You will need one adult witness for your ceremony.

A Certified copy of your
San Diego Marriage License
may be purchased
through the county clerks office
about two weeks AFTER the license is filed by us
The cost is $13.
Note: On your copy of your marriage license,
there is a form at the bottom to tear off
and mail to the county with your $13 check. They will
mail back a certified copy of
your San Diego marriage license.

who is able to issue
a Confidential Marriage License
with an appointment... if you need a license
( for example, if the county is closed)
